Saugerties Police will distribute overdose prevention kits and teach attendees how to use them Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the Saugerties Senior Center, 207 Market St., from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
First-respondors and anyone over the age of 16 who may be likely to witness an opiate overdose should attend. All participants will receive a free Naloxone rescue kit.
The session’s objectives are as follows:
- to identify risk factors for an overdose
- to be able to recognize an overdose
- to be able to identify the five essential steps for first responders as outlined in the SAMHSA Opioid Overdose Prevention Toolkit in the event of an overdose
- to be able to correctly use Naloxone to save lives

- to learn how to save a life during an overdose situation
- to receive education on crucial information related to opioids and the surrounding community
