    It’s meant to cut back on waste. Reportedly, enough plastic straws are thrown out each year to fill Yankee Stadium nine times over. The village and town boards passed the resolution after the issue was raised by local high school students.

    Opens on Saturday, April 21: Visitors will have the opportunity to hear the voice of a woman who grew up driving a mule along the D & H Canal from the interior of a canalboat cabin. Children can operate small canalboats through a scale-model canal with mechanical locks and an aqueduct. A large 3-D topographical map showcases how the geography of the state influenced canal routes.

Activities include a combination poetry walk and window shopping event with a correspondence contest, a series of poetry readings over the course of the month and an hour-long reading of a new translation of the Odyssey written by Emily Wilson, the first penned by a woman in the over 60 translations of Homer’s text into English.
