At 12:58 this morning, the Ellenville police and Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 613 Automotive, located on Main St. in the Village of Ellenville. Upon arrival, officers reported that the fire had spread rapidly, and the building was fully engulfed with flames. Ellenville Fire Department immediately began to battle the fire while calling for mutual aid from several other companies to the scene. The Ellenville Police and State Police from Ellenville closed down Route 209 to all traffic from Oak Ridge Rd. to Center Street in the Village of Ellenville. The road remained closed until about 11:30 a.m. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control, and subsequently putting it out at about 10 a.m. this morning. The scene was turned over to the building inspector and police at about 1 p.m. this afternoon.

The building was totally destroyed along with 20 vintage cars and multiple pieces of film equipment that were being used by a production company filming a movie for HBO. The families of three other residences had to be relocated as a result of the damage done by the fire due to their proximity to the fire. Fifteen fire departments from Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange counties, along with DEC, Ulster County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police in Ellenville, Ellenville Police, Ulster County Arson Task Force, Elenville Water Department, Napanoch Ladies Auxiliary, and the Ellenville Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.

Chief Philip S. Mattracion stated: “The absolute amazing thing to come out of this atrocity of disaster, is the fact that not one firefighter, law enforcement officer, or civilian was injured in this multi-faced operation that took place this morning. This is a true testament to the professionalism, training and dedication that the brave men and women who in the face of grave danger, volunteer to respond and leave their families behind at a moment’s notice, not knowing whether they will return.”

Here are two videos, taken during and after the fire.
