The New Paltz Police Department is investigating a vehicle vs. pedestrian fatal accident that occurred on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 5:27 p.m. on November 5, officers from the New Paltz Police Department responded to a report of a subject lying in the roadway on Main Street near the intersection of Joalyn Road. Officers located the subject and began rendering medical attention.
The initial investigation indicates the pedestrian, an 86-year-old man, was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Main Street when he attempted to cross Main Street and was knocked to the ground. The pedestrian was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The New Paltz Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to call the New Paltz Police Department at 845-255-1323. All calls will be kept confidential. The accident was not a hit-and-run, police have clarified, but officers would still like to speak with witnesses as part of the investigation.
