A motorcyclist died Saturday, July 14 after striking a car in Cairo.
The crash occurred at 1:45 p.m. According to police, a 2018 Subaru being operated by a Christine Cepale, 79, of Windham, was travelling eastbound on Lincoln Dr. when it crossed State Route 145 directly into the path of a 1988 Kawasaki Motorcycle being operated by Kevin Sweeney, 55, of Catskill. The motorcycle struck the car in the front passenger side causing Sweeney to be ejected. Sweeney was taken to an awaiting helicopter for transport, but succumbed before he was able to be loaded into the aircraft.
Cepale and her husband, Robert Cepale, 85, were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released. The investigation is ongoing.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Cairo Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Cairo Fire Department and Cairo Ambulance.
