Murphy will work hard in legislature
Beth Murphy is exactly the type of person we should all want to represent us in the Ulster County Legislature. She will never be content to go to one legislative meeting and a few committee meetings a month and call it a day. That kind of passivity is not in her nature. She wants to get things done for the taxpayers she will serve, and she surely will. When she sees a problem, she tackles it head on and doesn’t quit until it’s fixed. I want that kind of energy and advocacy in my legislator. To my fellow townspeople who live in Legislative District 1, please join me in voting for Beth. She will do us proud.

Aiello: Independent, effective, honest
We all have the opportunity to elect those that we believe will be good, honest and effective leaders. In District 2 we have been represented by incumbent Legislator Bob Aiello. He has served the residents of Saugerties, a town he is proud to call home. He likes the small-town feeling and the fact that most people know others by name in our community. Residents know Bob and his genuine concern for his fellow neighbors and friends in the community.
Constituents know that Bob is available to hear their concerns and offer solutions. Whether the concerns are localized to Saugerties or larger in nature such as the serious impacts of Lyme disease, the negatives impacts of water released into the Esopus Creek or pedestrian crosswalks Bob has been there to offer suggestions and solutions.
We can have this kind of Saugerties home town representation once again in the Ulster County Legislature by re-electing my husband, Bob Aiello, an independent thinker, effective leader and a man of his word.

Impressed by Allen
I have not really been interested in politics until this year. I had the opportunity to meet Chris Allen when he was campaigning. Now I’m interested. I was really impressed with him, his ideas, his intelligence, and his concern for our community. I attended the candidate forum put on by the League of Women Voters. I saw Chris handle a variety of questions from the audience in a very competent, intelligent way. I am so confident that he will make an excellent Ulster County legislator that I am urging all my friends to vote for Chris Allen.

A Democrat for Wawro
I have lived in Blue Mountain, Saugerties, New York since 1964. I am a registered Democrat and primarily vote accordingly; however, I am pleased to say that Conservative candidate Mary Wawro has my vote for the upcoming election. As Mary has occupied the current position of one of our county legislators, I have seen her make a difference in the community. She is always available to listen to my concerns and answer questions about any conflicts arising in Saugerties. She works diligently to make sure she can provide the best outcome possible. Mary is a mother of five, a grandmother of two, an animal lover and rescuer, and she also runs her own registered daycare right out of her home. I have known Mary most of her life, and I have seen the wide distribution of care and kindheartedness she gives to others through her work. As a county legislator, Mary works very hard for her constituents in her district. I recommend, without reservation, Mary Wawro for District One of the County Legislature.

Wawro works for us
We are writing in support of Mary Wawro in her re-election to the Ulster County Legislature. We have known Mary for a very long time and consider her to be one of the finest people we know. We trusted Mary to watch our sons and now we trust her to represent our interests in the Ulster County Legislature. Mary not only works very hard for Legislative District 1, but because she is one of us, she truly makes decisions that are reflective of our district. For Mary, it is not about her but about us! Because we need Mary in the Ulster County Legislature, we are asking for you to vote for her.

What does it take?
In this political season there are many who make claims as to what they wish to bring to their perspective or present constituents. Their intents and goals seem well meaning enough, but what is the difference between those who only espouse and those who accomplish?
To find the answer we might look to the business world as so many have suggested would be instructive to government entities. What would IBM, with its undeniable success, require of its employees to propel it forward? Of course they have defined goals, but more is necessary. Research abilities are a basic necessity, as well as analytic scrutiny to define from that research what will be the most effective method to bring results to fruition. But even that would be all for naught, if one couldn’t credibly present proposals and convince others of the validity and worth the vision … and further have the energy and commitment to see it all through.
For 30 years, Beth Murphy worked for IBM displaying these qualities. As a successful internal consultant, her job included identifying market needs, pursuing research and analysis necessary to identify appropriate solutions and displaying the tenacity to see that those ideas would be understood and accepted by others in the organization to insure successful implementation. Her success in these endeavors at IBM were evidenced by her long tenure and steady promotion, even through times of recession and downsizing, and receiving such prestigious awards as “Marketing Representative of the Year.”
But Beth’s interests and abilities aren’t simply driven by aspiring to corporate advancement, as exemplified by her activities since retirement. Community concerns are an important part of her life. She has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis, Saugerties Economic Committee, and TV 23, all volunteer positions dedicated to the betterment of Saugerties.
And since even the seemingly smaller things are indicative of character, ask her neighbors about her initiatives in keeping the roads clean and her neighbors cared for.
From proven professional competence, to community concerns, to neighborly compassion, we can count on Beth to come through for us in the County Legislature… She’s got what it takes…Her competence and compassion deserves our vote of confidence.

Allen dedicated to lowering property taxes
As a candidate for the Ulster County Legislature representing Saugerties in District 2: Barclay Heights, the Village and Malden, I have presented voters with a platform that illuminates the need for economic development. Our excessive rate of property taxes has created a crisis situation in Saugerties! People cannot afford to stay in Saugerties during their retirement years. Young families find it difficult to pay their monthly bills unless they are fortunate enough to have a well paying job which quite often takes them far away from their families for their daily commute. Single residents of Saugerties cannot find affordable apartments and are forced to move to Greene County in search of cheaper rent-bills. Saugerties needs business growth and the jobs that business growth brings, and Saugerties needs the property tax revenues that are generated from the right types of business development. This is the only way in which we can curb this trend of skyrocketing property taxes that is pushing people out of Saugerties and New York State.
I have meticulously researched an idea to bring an Agricultural and Technology based trade campus to Saugerties that would be an addition to the SUNY system like the campuses at SUNY-Delhi and Cobleskill. Upon election to office, I will work with other elected officials to pressure Gov. Cuomo and the leaders of SUNY to build such a campus out of the construction funds within the SUNY system. I have already pressured Sen. Schumer, Sen. Tkaczyk and Assemblyman Lopez about helping me to implement my idea, and I have presented it to all three candidates for town supervisor. In 2012, Ulster County spent $2.8 million to subsidize the 1,816 residents of Ulster County who attended out-of-county community colleges, and this number of students within Ulster County attending community colleges outside of Ulster County has doubled in the last two years and quadrupled in the last four. A SUNY-Saugerties campus at Winston Farm should be built with an amphitheatre encompassed within the grounds just like the Finger Lakes Community College in Western New York which has the Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center within its campus. Such a design would educate over 3,000 students, have dormitories on campus and bring around 1,000 jobs to Saugerties. It would stimulate the pre-existing businesses within the village of Saugerties and spurn new business growth in the area.
On the King’s Highway corridor and other parts of Saugerties, we should market our community to companies who are in a financial position to set-up facilities while paying property taxes in year one of operations. In this globally-based economy, foreign companies and pharmaceutical drug companies should be targeted, as they are often in a better financial position relative to other industries. Saugerties got burned by the candle factory on Kings Highway, and we can’t allow this to happen again!
As your legislator, I will strive to have perfect attendance in the legislature and continue to attend town and village board meetings.
Thank you for your support, together we can make a difference!
