Thomas W. Schoonmaker 

Thomas W. Schoonmaker, 67, of Highland, New York passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday January 4, 2022, at Vassar Hospital. Tom was born on June 8,1954 and was the son of the late Walter and Florence Perkins Schoonmaker.  

Tom was a 1972 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, where he excelled at many sports.  He started his career with IBM in East Fishkill where he eventually took on numerous managerial positions over his 42 years of service. Prior to his retirement he was also employed by Global Foundries.

On February 20, 1996, Tom married Susan Erichsen in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  He was a devoted husband, uncle, and friend.  His greatest enjoyments included the white sandy beaches of South Florida and following the New York Yankees.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Susan, and his little dog, “Watson”, who was his constant companion.  Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Dorothy Erichsen, brother-in-laws, Stephen and Stuart Erichsen, sister-in-laws, Anna Erichsen, Louisemary Schoonmaker and Karen Schoonmaker, nephews, Michael (Amber) and Brian (Amy) Schoonmaker, nieces, Jessica and Jennifer (Zach) Erichsen, great niece, Mickayla and Tom’s much-loved friend, “His Little Angel”, Phyllis.  He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, John Schoonmaker and his father-in-law, Kenneth Erichsen.

Calling hours will be held Sunday January 9, 2022, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Copeland-Hammerl Funeral Home, 162 S. Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, New York 12561. The funeral will be on Monday January 10, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home and burial will follow at the Lloyd Cemetery in Highland.
