The annual New Paltz Memorial Day parade took place on Friday, May 30. A procession of local dignitaries, spirited scouts, dedicated civic leaders, and the new fire chief, Patrick Koch, alongside fire and rescue volunteers. It was a sight to behold as the New Paltz High School marching band, led by Sam Newsome, filled the air with stirring music. As they made their way down Main Street, a palpable reverence enveloped the crowd, honoring those brave souls who never returned from the battlefield.
The march concluded in solemn memorial services at the veterans’ memorial in front of the former fire station with a stirring salute to deceased veterans, the sharp reports of the VFW rifle squad echoing through the air, a powerful reminder of sacrifice and valor that reverberates in the hearts of all who attended.
