Four young men were killed in a one-vehicle accident in the Village of Saugerties and a young woman was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, according to police reports.
The accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
The car, a 2002 Honda Accord, was traveling south on Washington Ave., when the operator of the vehicle failed to negotiate a turn at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Montgomery Street. The vehicle continued south, traveling down a private drive and then over an embankment, plunging 110 feet onto Dock Street. Prior to coming to rest, the vehicle struck a residence located at 76 Dock Street, causing extensive damage to the structural integrity. The vehicle then came to rest on its roof, trapping all five occupants within.
The operator of the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Meredith McSpirit of Kingston was extricated by fire personnel and treated by paramedics from Diaz Ambulance before being flown by helicopter to the Albany Medical Center. McSpirit was admitted to the ICU with a spinal injury and is listed in stable condition. The four additional occupants sustained fatal injuries in the crash and were declared deceased at the scene by the Ulster County Medical Examiner.
Saugerties Police Detectives and Investigators with the NYS Police Collision Reconstruction Team are currently continuing the investigation into the incident and crash.

Adam McQueen, 22, of Ulster Park
