Olive tax increase, with board approval, will exceed the cap

Village of Saugerties officials said they do not yet know exactly how they will spend nearly $200,000 in Federal funds the village recently received under the American Rescue Plan.

At Monday’s Village Board meeting, treasurer Paula Kerbert said the village received $194,487 dollars in Federal funds and will receive an equal amount on the third week of July in 2022. Kerbert said they have until 2026 to spend the funds.

Kerbert said none of the funds have been earmarked yet, and she will attend a webinar soon that will lay out how the village can legally use the funds, but she suspects they will have to mostly be earmarked for infrastructure and water and wastewater projects.

“That’s good, we can use it in all these areas,” trustee Jeannine Mayer said.
