Maverick Tickets On Sale
Maverick Concerts, the oldest continuous summer chamber music festival in America, is pleased to announce that tickets for its 105th festival are on sale with the return of the popular early bird special on ticket books.
A pre-festival special event is planned for June 27 featuring the renowned pianist Daniel Gortler in a solo piano recital.
2020 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven and The Maverick will mark the event on Sunday afternoons in its usual “house style. Sundays at Maverick 105 will feature some of the finest string quartets in the world: the Danish, Shanghai, Borromeo, Escher, Amernet, American, and more. Piano trios also grace Maverick 105 with a return of the Horszowski Trio and Trio Solisti. Renowned pianist Simone Dinnerstein will join violinist Tim Fain (Moonlight, 12 Years a Slave, Bee Season) in an amazing solo/duo concert of Bach, Beethoven, and Philip Glass on July 26.

Heppner At Barnes & Noble
Woodstock Town Historian Richard Heppner will read from, talk about and sign copies of his latest book, Woodstock’s Infamous Murder Trial, regarding the 1905 murder of Oscar Harrison, at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21 at Barnes & Noble, 1177 Ulster Avenue in Kingston. The story centers on race relations, a crusading attorney, whom Heppner likens to Atticus Finch, the lawyer from To Kill A Mockingbird.

Selkowitz Exhibits in Connecticut
“The Contemplative Landscape” is an exhibition of paintings by Ashokan artist Robert Selkowitz featuring his oils from the Adirondacks and Cape Breton Island at the JCC, 1035 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut, his home town. The paintings embody the ideal of restful stimulation that can flow from immersion in a scene of natural beauty found at lakes in the Adirondacks and shores of the Gulf of St Lawrence. The exhibit includes nineteen oils and a selection of pastels. James Baldwin Discussion Group
Twentieth Century American author James Baldwin is the focus of a reading and discussion group from April to June at the Woodstock Library.
The six-session series, sponsored by Humanities New York and the Woodstock Public Library District, is open to the public. Books for the series — The Early Novels and Stories of James Baldwin, and The Collected Essays of James Baldwin — are free to borrow, supplied by the sponsors. Advance registration is required.
This course will examine seminal works by Baldwin to understand his relevance to American history: on slavery, racism, relations between blacks and whites, and the continuance of social and cultural behaviors that separate blacks and whites.
This discussion group “will be particularly meaningful to our community since many of Facilitator is Sheila Isenberg, a Woodstock resident and the author of four biographies and one work of non-fiction. Lucas Handwerker’s You & I
Coming off of four sold out shows in New York City and Los Angeles this past January, Lucas Handwerker is set to perform You & I, his new, intimate mystic/intuitive/interactive show, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 at Hotel Dylan, 320 Maverick Road, Woodstock.
Lucas has been working with audiences and private clients for over a decade, targeting and curing fears and answering lingering questions past, present and future.
His own incredible story and journey only adds to his cache — growing up here in The Catskills as the child of parents who met and married in an esoteric cult, vowing poverty and celibacy for nearly two decades and now successfully striking out on his own in his 20s, currently in final discussions for a television special and appearances on an upcoming episode of Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills. His show is a modernization of the mystic healing experience, combining intuitive readings, conjuring, hypnosis and storytelling in an entertaining and enlightening live event.

Cannabis As Medicine
The Woodstock Library Forum will present a discussion on medical marijuana with Dr. Peter Fish, Medical Director of Thompson House, Martin Mills, Executive Director of the Hudson Valley chapter of NORML and a representative to be announced from Etain, 5 p.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the library, 5 Library Lane, Woodstock.
Etain is New York’s only family-run, women-owned medical marijuana company. The dispensary located on Route 28, Kingston, is one of four Etain dispensaries in New York State and offers patients safe, legal access to palliative medicines for effective treatment of debilitating symptoms and diseases.
NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), is dedicated to advocate and educate for laws that allow legal, responsible adult use of cannabis.
The Woodstock Library Forum is the Hudson Valley’s longest running cultural and public affairs program and is sponsored by The Friends of The Woodstock Library. It is free and open to the public.
Soul Wise Workshop
A Soul Wise Workshop, facilitated by Diana Catherine Bella of Doors of Light, will take place 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Saturday March 14 at Mountainview Studio, 20 Mountainview Avenue, Woodstock. Soul wise is the process of discovering and connecting to the soul, and allowing that connection to permeate all areas of life creating conditions that facilitate healing.
Admission is by donation, with a percentage of the proceeds going toward doing similar groups in community mental health programs.
