Burglary foiled in Kingston leads to arrest of three, police say

An alleged burglary-in-progress at a Kingston residence led to the arrest of three individuals, including one who was caught after a brief foot chase and another found nearby in a vehicle with multiple drug and theft-related charges.

The incident unfolded on October 23, 2025, when Kingston police, while conducting a routine patrol, checked the premises of 125 Emerson Street and disrupted an active burglary attempt. Two suspects, Zachary T. Wagner and Jade Terwillegar, tried to flee the scene but were apprehended shortly after. A third suspect, Christopher Escobar, was discovered nearby in a vehicle and subsequently taken into custody.

Escobar, 39, of Rhinebeck, is facing several charges including second- and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree burglary, and possession of stolen property. In addition to these felony charges, he was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Following his arrest, Escobar was processed and later released on his own recognizance.

Wagner, 32, of Kingston, is charged with second-degree burglary and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies. He also faces misdemeanor counts for obstructing governmental administration and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Terwillegar, 30, of Port Ewen, is facing similar charges of second-degree burglary and obstructing governmental administration.

All three individuals were arraigned in Kingston City Court the following day. Wagner and Terwillegar were remanded to Ulster County Jail, while Escobar was released without bail. The case remains under investigation.
