After the sudden closure of once-popular midtown neighborhood bar Dear Kingston, residents have been wondering for nearly two years when the choice location would be revitalized.
Enter Kestrel Tavern, a new bar and restaurant planned for the 21 O’Neil St. location right off Broadway.

Details are scarce, but an announcement on social media indicates New Jersey-based Ives Architecture Studio is currently working on the space. Ives specializes in commercial, institutional, and residential design, with a focus on sustainable, functional, and community-oriented projects.
The announcement touted the project as “a new chapter in Kingston’s rich history” and notes an apartment will be a part of the design plan.
The location is convenient to midtown and uptown, features a spacious back outdoor area, outdoor patio, and indoor bar with table seating and a kitchen. Downstairs, a custom-built system feeds the taproom upstairs.
No word yet on an opening date, so stay tuned.
