The Saugerties Stallions secured their second Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) title in franchise history after defeating the Batavia Muckdogs 10-6 in a marathon 17-inning contest at Dwyer Stadium on Sunday, August 3. The Stallions, champions of the East Division and seeded second overall, swept the top-seeded Muckdogs in the best-of-three Championship Series. They had already claimed Game 1 decisively with a 9-2 win at home on Saturday.
Sunday’s title-clinching game was a test of endurance and resilience. After trailing 5-3 since the fourth inning, Saugerties tied the game in the eighth on a clutch two-out single from Casey Cumiskey. The deadlock held for eight more innings, thanks in large part to stellar bullpen work from John Hacker, Mason Weaver, and Matthew Murtagh. Hacker, who was later named Championship Series MVP, threw eight scoreless innings in relief. Cumiskey again delivered in the 17th, sparking a five-run rally with a double, followed by a go-ahead RBI single from Brandon Fish.
In the opening game at Cantine Field, Adonis Medina led the Stallions’ offensive surge with a three-run homer, and Virgil Heath pitched over eight strong innings to set the tone for the series. The Stallions’ dominant postseason run ends with a 2-0 series sweep and adds a second championship banner to their 2021 title.
