A fire broke out Wednesday, Apr. 16 at a residence located at 60 Brink Road in Saugerties, prompting a multi-agency response. The initial call came in at approximately 12:30pm, dispatching Company 19 to the scene. Ulster 911 reported that the structure was fully engulfed in flames and possibly occupied, leading Car 1 to request the activation of the FAST team and a second alarm.
Upon arrival about two minutes later, Car 1 confirmed that the three-story wood-frame home was heavily involved in fire. A third alarm was immediately requested, along with a call for Saugerties 53-10 to establish a draft site at the Grant D. Morse School to support water supply operations.
Engine 1 arrived shortly after and crews deployed multiple hose lines to combat the blaze on the first and second floors. While teams conducted primary searches, a family member at the scene confirmed that no one was inside the house at the time. Searches throughout the home were completed and no occupants were found.
Additional hose lines were extended from Tanker 2 to assist with suppression efforts. The fire was brought under control at 1:19pm, though crews continued working for several hours to extinguish remaining hotspots, particularly in the roof area, and to conduct overhaul operations.
Two cats were found during the incident and returned to the homeowners with minor smoke exposure. Four firefighters sustained minor injuries and were evaluated on-site by Diaz Ambulance personnel before being released.
Fire and emergency crews remained on the scene until 5:27pm to assist with the investigation and final overhaul procedures.
Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the Glasco FAST team, Diaz Ambulance, and fire departments from Ulster Hose, Mt. Marion, Saxton, Saugerties, Woodstock, Palenville, Kiskatom, and Olive. Law enforcement and support were provided by Car 56-6, the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, Saugerties Police Department, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Central Hudson. Malden West Camp and East Kingston fire departments provided standby coverage at Cedar Grove station.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
