On the morning of Jan. 5, at approximately 11am, the Saugerties Police Department arrested a 14-year-old girl following an investigation. The juvenile was charged with Unlawful Dissemination or Publication of an Intimate Image under New York law.
After processing, the individual was released into the custody of a guardian and issued an appearance ticket to report to the Ulster County Probation Intake Unit at a future date.
The Unlawful Dissemination or Publication of an Intimate Image law in New York is designed to address the unauthorized sharing of private, explicit images or videos of another person without their consent, often referred to as “revenge porn.” Under this law, it is a crime to intentionally disseminate such images with the intent to harm, harass, or cause distress to the depicted individual.
