On Monday evening, September 16, Kingston’s city planning board unanimously approved a one-year extension for the Kingstonian project in Uptown Kingston to break ground under its approved site plan – and there’s language in the resolution saying that Kingston Development LLC can come back for more time if it needs it.
The year’s extension to obtain a city permit to build the complex $60-million-plus housing, hotel, parking and commercial development had been drafted by the city attorney’s office and the developers, said city planner Suzanne Cahill. The resolution required the planning board’s approval. Planning board chair Wayne Platte read the resolution aloud. There was no further discussion.
It appears that an earlier version of the resolution had stipulated a two-year extension, but that had been changed to one year prior to presentation to the planning board. The original approval of the site plan was in October 2022.
The Kingstonian includes some 427 parking spaces beneath its residential structures. Kingston Plaza co-owner Brad Jordan, a partner in the enterprise, had promised the availability of an additional 100 spaces across Schwenk Drove for exclusive use by the Kingstonian’s patrons. There was no mention of these in the resolution passed by the planning board.
