Harambee Kingston, a culture and education non-profit, will host Kingston’s official Juneteenth celebration this Saturday. Signed into law as an official federal holiday in 2021, the day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. There will be an Ancestors Ceremony at noon at the Pine Street African Burial Ground, followed by the grand reveal of Harambee’s new African Cultural Arts Center on Clinton Avenue. The event will celebrate freedom with a diverse lineup of vendors, music, performances, speeches and kids’ activities. It’s all open to the public and free.
