Kingston High School boys’ soccer
The Kingston High School boys’ varsity soccer team split a pair of shutouts last week, starting Monday with a 4-0 loss on the road at Monroe-Woodbury.
The home team led 3-0 by the half against a Kingston side that, despite only being outshot 9-7, could not find the target on offense. Noah Rivera accounted for half of the Crusaders’ goals.
Rodrigo Martinez and Cody Baker combined to save five shots on goal for the Tigers.
Four days later, Kingston was back home at Dietz Stadium where they crushed Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association opponent Middletown in a 6-0 result. The Tigers outshot the Middies 11-2 in the win, splitting their goals evenly across the pair of halves.
Simon Kiluba and Baker each scored a brace for the Tigers, with Imai Harris (goal, assist), Caden Fitzgerald (goal), Max Maouris (2 assists), Andrew Foster (assist) and Ezequias Caibon (assist) also contributing to the offensive onslaught. Martinez played the whole game in goal and didn’t have to record a save to keep a clean sheet.
Kingston High School girls’ soccer
The Kingston High School girls’ varsity soccer team fell on the road and won at home in a pair of games last week.
The Tigers traveled to Central Valley on Tuesday, October 5 for a battle with Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association for Monroe-Woodbury, losing 4-2. Dakota Quick and Adrianna Williams each scored for Kingston in the loss.
Thursday, October 7 was senior night at Dietz Stadium, and the Tigers rose to the challenge, winning 3-0 against Middletown. Ari Burns scored a brace and Juliet Bravo added one more goal in the Kingston win. In addition to Burns and Juliet Bravo, the Tigers honored departing seniors Julia Ahouse, Avery Banbury, Paige Bennett, Jocelyn Bravo, Margaret Fitzgerald, Sarai Knox and Delisianna Naccarato.
Kingston High School swimming and diving
The Kingston High School girls’ swimming and diving team improved to a perfect 9-0 on the season last week with a commanding 101-73 win over visiting FDR.
Emily McCord led the Tigers with a pair of individual wins in the meet held on Thursday, October 7. McCord took both the 100 (56.65) and 200 (2:03.08) freestyle and was also the anchor on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:52.13) alongside Caroline Steeves, Katherine Steeves and Gianna Vertullo.
Ellie Meyer (50 free, 27.02), Carly Ford (diving, 184.55) and Caroline Steeves (500 free, 5:47.60) also won individual events for the Tigers.
Kingston also took gold in the 200 medley relay, with Parker Ball, Ford, Meyer and Vertullo finishing in 2:06.94.
Kingston High School girls’ tennis
The Kingston High School girls’ tennis team dropped two of three road battles to close out their regular season last week, opening with a 5-2 loss at undefeated Warwick on Wednesday, October 6.
In the Warwick match, Lila Freeman came back against Sammy Killin in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win. Iris Laves won at third singles for the Tigers, beating Bianka Grzesk 10-2.
One day later, Kingston traveled to Minisink Valley, crushing the hosts 6-0.
Freeman (6-0, 6-0), Elizabeth Madonna (6-0, 6-0), Laves (6-3, 6-0) and Winnie Kelalu (7-5, 6-4) all won at singles for the Tigers. The tandems of Cassidy Holsapple and Camryn Fisher (7-5, 6-1), and Ruby Finch and Lena Gudmundsen (6-2, 6-3) swept doubles.
Many of the Tigers’ players will compete in the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament from October 12-14 at the Match Point Sports Complex in Goshen.
Kingston High School cross country
The Kingston High School cross country team was swept by Monroe-Woodbury last Tuesday, with the boys falling 20-43 and the girls 17-46. The Tigers had one top five finish in each of the races, with Luca Maneri’s first place on the boy’s side in 17:45.78 nearly 35 seconds ahead of Monroe’s Gavin Catherwood.
Carla Bautista placed fourth overall for the Tigers with a time of 21:40.84.
On the boys’ side, other Kingston finishers included Jaco Kraft (13th, 20:48.52) Arkady Rakchev (15th, 21:16.79), Gavin Blair (17th, 22:26.13), Hunter Fuller (18th, 22:31.40), Zach Martinez (28th, 23:59.79) and Logan Manor (32nd, 25:40.51).
Other Kingston girl finishers included Lisa Vargas (15th, 26:58.56), Marla McCain (23rd, 29:06.37), Aislinn Hertle (27th, 32:29.85) and Lola Douglas (33rd, 40:11.54).
The Tigers also competed in the Manhattanville Invitational in Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday, October 9. Maneri was tops for the Tigers on the boy’s side, finishing the 2.5 mile course in 13:43.7, 17th in his race and 133rd best in a full field of 1,019 runners. Kingston’s boys’ team placed 19th overall.
Bautista led the Tiger girls, finishing 14th in her race with a time of 16:57.1, which put her at 148th out of 792 total runners.

Kingston High School volleyball
The Kingston High School varsity volleyball team was swept by a dominating Monroe-Woodbury in Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association action held in Central Valley on Friday, October 8. The Crusaders won 25-7, 25-11, 25-17.
Ryleigh Purvis (11 digs, 9 assists) and Alannah Rolph (5 kills) led the Tigers in defeat.
Kingston hosts Middletown at Kate Walton Field House on Wednesday, October 13.
Kingston High School football
The Kingston High School varsity football team’s rollercoaster season hit a valley last week as the Tigers fell 27-0 to Section 9, Class AA visitor Monroe-Woodbury at their own Senior Night.
Held at Dietz Stadium on Friday, October 8, the game saw an injury-depleted Kingston team drop to 1-1 in Class AA competition. The Tigers were held to just 104 yards by the stingy Monroe defense and only broke into the visitors’ half of the field twice.
Monroe chewed up 281 ground yards on 40 carries.
The Tigers did not provide game statistics in the loss.
Onteora High School field hockey
The Onteora varsity field hockey team was on the losing end of a 4-0 shutout at Ellenville on Friday, October 8. It was the first win of the season for the Lady Devils. Onteora goalkeeper Delilah Blue had four saves in the loss.
Onteora High School boys’ soccer
The Onteora varsity boys’ soccer team dropped a 2-0 result against visiting Ellenville on Wednesday, October 6. Just five minutes into the game Marcus Lewis-Rivera found a ricochet off a 40-yard free kick and put it into the back of the net. Jackson Scanlon made four saves in goal for the Eagles.
Onteora High School girls’ soccer
Darrah Allison tied the game t 1-1 off an Achala Gindele assist, but it was not enough to help the Onteora girls’ varsity soccer team to victory in a 2-1 home loss to Dover on Wednesday, October 6. Alexia Melendez and Coco Asada combined for three saves for Onteora.
New Paltz High School girls’ soccer
The New Paltz girls’ varsity soccer team improved to 4-0 in Mid-Hudson Athletic League action and 8-3 overall last week, beating their three opponents by a combined score of 17-0.
It started on Monday, October 4 when the Huguenots hosted Marlboro in a lopsided 11-0 win. Freshman Leah Schamberg had a hat trick for her first varsity goals, while Fiona O’Hara (3 goals), Melanie Kniffen (goal, 2 assists), Peyton Curley (goal, assist), Lora Johnson (goal), Riley Burdick (goal), Soleil Miller (goal), Nyah Cunniff (assist), Natalee Watts (assist) and Kalle Masseo (assist) also contributed offensively. The Huguenots outshot Marlboro 21-1 in the win.
New Paltz goalkeeper Vivian Kay had one save to preserve the clean sheet, while her Dukes counterpart Kori Walker had nine.
The Huguenots followed that game with a 4-0 win at Rondout Valley on Wednesday, October 6.
O’Hara scored all four goals for the Huguenots, half coming in the first five minutes of the game. Cunniff had a pair of assists in the New Paltz win, with MacDonald and Natalee Watts each dishing one apiece.
Kay had nine saves in goal to preserve the clean sheet for the Huguenots.
The Huguenots wrapped their week with a 2-0 home win against Saugerties on Friday, October 8.
O’Hara scored both of the Huguenots’ goals in the second half, with MacDonald and Schamberg assisting. Kay recorded eight saves in goal in the win, while Gabriella DeSantis had six for the Sawyers.
Onteora High School football
The Onteora High School varsity 8-man football team lost a wild 42-26 home game against Boiceville on Saturday, October 9.
Eagles quarterback Reese Rotella threw for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Griffin Alterio rushed for 137 yards on 25 attempts, including two for scores.
Alterio (8 tackles, 5 assists, sack, forced fumble, blocked punt) and Rotella (2 interceptions) also contributed to the defense, along with Joey Christofora (2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles).
New Paltz High School boys’ golf
The New Paltz High School boys’ golf team stayed perfect in 2021 last week against a Wallkill team that has yet to win a single battle. The Huguenots won 165-192 at Turtle Creek Golf Course in Wallkill on Tuesday, October 5 to improve to 10-0 on the season.
Oliver Watson carded a 2-over-par 37 to lead the Huguenots, with Domenico Mazzella (40), Loyal Goodermote (43) and Stephen Carr (45) also factoring into the final tally. Wallkill was led by Trevor Strano’s 44.
Saugerties High School boys’ golf
The Saugerties High School boys’ golf team dropped a close contest to FDR, falling 161-168 at Dinsmore Golf Course in Staatsburg on Tuesday, October 7.
Ben Fox led all golfers with a 1-under-par 34, with Aero Ferrendino (40), Harry Bubel (45) and Cameron France (50) also contributing. But it was not enough to overcome a solid team effort from the Presidents, who were led by Ike Rothman’s 36.
New Paltz High School volleyball
The New Paltz High School varsity volleyball team won a pair of matchups last week, hitting the road in the first, a 3-0 sweep of Red Hook on Tuesday, October 5.
The Huguenots beat the Raiders 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 on the strength of solid showings by Francheska Geminiano (14 kills, 4 aces, block), Lily Sturgis (8 kills, 4 aces, 3 digs) and Esve Mullins (24 assists, 5 digs, 4 aces).
Two days later, New Paltz hosted Marlboro, winning 25-14, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15. Geminiano (15 kills, 4 blocks), Sturgis (10 kills, 3 aces), Mullins (28 assists, 16 digs, 11 aces, 6 kills) and Alex Frenza (5 kills, 3 blocks, 3 aces) all pitched in.
Saugerties High School volleyball
The Saugerties High School varsity volleyball team split a pair of battles last week, falling 3-0 at Highland and outlasting Red Hook 3-2 at home.
The Sawyers traveled to Highland on Tuesday, October 5, dropping a 25-22, 25-12, 25-10 result. Dreama Manganiello (4 kills, 4 blocks, 5 digs), Lacey Schatzel (7 digs, 2 kills) and Emily Brink (4 digs, 2 kills) led the Sawyers in the loss.
Two days later the Sawyers welcomed Red Hook to town, coming back from a 2-1 deficit in a 25-20, 16-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20 win. Manganiello (5 kills, 4 blocks, 2 digs), Brink (5 aces, 3 digs), Schatzel (4 aces, 2 digs) and Izzy Cavallo (4 aces, 2 assists) paced Saugerties.
New Paltz High School football
The New Paltz High School varsity football team found its mojo at home last Friday, crushing Class B opponent Liberty 43-6.
Brady Saunders led the Huguenots with 89 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Spyros Schrippa ran for 101 yards and one touchdown, and Tony Drewnowski threw a scoring pass to Pierce Lutz and also kicked a 25-yard field goal to lead the New Paltz offense.
Schrippa (8 tackles, sack), Saunders (7 tackles, sack), Mike O’Dell (6 tackles, forced fumble, sack) and Logan Ormond (6 tackles, sack) led the Huguenots’ defense.
New Paltz improved 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Class B.
Saugerties High School girls’ tennis
The Saugerties High School girls tennis team swept visiting FDR on Wednesday, October 6, dropping just six games overall. With the win they improved to 6-2 overall.
Mehal Mitra (6-0, 6-0), Amy Hoyt (6-1, 6-0) and Alayna VanNosdall (6-0, 6-0) all cruised to singles victories for the Sawyers.
In doubles action, Hannah Hoyt and Marlo Rothe beat Briahna Curcio-Brynn Grogan (6-1, 6-1), while Chloe Turner and Hannah Mills ousted Elena Mielke-Emily Culley (6-1, 6-2).
Saugerties High School football
The Saugerties High School varsity football team lost its annual Mum Bowl on Saturday, October 9, falling to visiting O’Neill 41-14. Raiders quarterback Kyle West accounted for four touchdowns.
The Sawyers scored all 14 of their points in the fourth quarter. The team did not enter statistics following the game.
