KHS Girls Soccer
The Kingston High School Girls varsity soccer team opened its 2021 campaign with a tough 2-1 loss at Beacon on Friday, September 3. The Bulldogs are playing their first season in Section IX.
Arianna Burns scored the lone goal for the Tigers off an assist from Isabella Williams. Hannah Tampasis recorded three saves in goal for Kingston to keep the game close.
The Tigers stay on the road as they begin their Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association slate on Friday, September 9 with a visit to Newburgh Free Academy.
OHS Girls Soccer
The Onteora High School Girls varsity soccer team sustained a 3-0 road loss at non-league powerhouse Red Hook to open their 2021 season on Friday, September 3.
The Raiders were up early after scoring off a pair of corner kicks, the first an own goal in the 8th minute, and the second one minute later when Stallah Marienthal LeGendre hit the back of the net off a pass by Kaitlyn Murphy. Ani Safaryan slammed the door shut for the home team with a goal in the 65th minute.
Onteora goalkeeper Alexia Melendez turned away four shots on goal.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, September 8 when they travel to Mid-Hudson Athletic League opponent Rhinebeck. Onteora hosts its home opener two days later when MHAL foe Spackenkill comes to town.
KHS Volleyball
Kingston High School’s varsity volleyball team opened its season with a win on the road, ousting non-league opponent Goshen in four games. The Tigers fell in the first game before taking the next three 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 to earn the win.
Alannah Rolph (9 kills), Ryleigh Purvis (9 assists, 5 assists) and Julia Jankowski (20 digs, 3 aces) led Kingston in the win.
The Tigers open their Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association schedule on Wednesday, September 8 when Monticello visits.
KHS Football
The Kingston High School varsity football team clobbered host Poughkeepsie 34-8 in their 2021 season opener on Saturday, September 4. The Tigers carried a 14-0 halftime lead into the fourth quarter before putting the game away late.
It was a heady combination of offense and defense that won the game for Kingston, with the defenders hanging on after the Pioneers recovered a misplayed punt on the Tiger 49 yard line. Poughkeepsie finally got on the board in the fourth to get within 21-8 before Kingston slammed the door shut with a pair of late touchdowns.

The Tigers stay on the road for non-league action with a visit to Beacon City on Friday, September 10. They host non-league opponent Saugerties in the home opener at Dietz Stadium on Friday, September 17.
SHS/NPHS Boys Golf
The New Paltz High School boys golf team opened its 2021 Mid-Hudson Athletic League season with a 158-194 win over Saugerties High at Rip Van Winkle Country Club in Palenville on Wednesday, September 1. Oliver Watson shot an even-par 36 and Loyal Goodermote a one-over 37 to lead the Huguenots. Also scoring for New Paltz were Domenico Mazzella (42) and Manny Markmann (43).
The Sawyers were led by Harry Bubel and Cameron France, who each carded a 47. Aero Ferrendino (48) and Paul Croce (52) rounded out the Sawyers’ afternoon.
Saugerties was back in action at Rip Van Winkle two days later when they outlasted F.D.R. 182-190. Ben Fox led the pack for the Sawyers with a 5-over 41. France (46), Bubel (47) and Ferrendino (48) also contributed to the Saugerties win. Ike Rothman led the Presidents with a 43.
SHS Girls Tennis
The Saugerties High Girls Tennis team swept Mid-Hudson Athletic League host Wallkill 5-0 in their 2021 season opener on Thursday, September 2. The Sawyers dropped just four games on the afternoon.
Mehal Mitra set the table for Saugerties in first singles, ousting Emma Nelson 6-0, 6-0. Amy Hoyt beat Alice West 6-0, 6-0; and Alayna VanNosdall trounced Sydney Scannell 6-0, 6-1 to round out singles play.
In doubles action, Hannah Hoyt and Marie Roth outlasted Lilie Jaffee and Kaleigh Flanagan 6-3, 6-0; and Chloe Turner and Hannah Mills swept PAtrice DeLices and Clare Egan 6-0, 6-0 to preserve the Sawyer shutout.
Saugerties hosts its home opener against MHAL opponent Ellenville on Thursday, September 9.
