Kingston Stockade FC cruised to the top of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) North Atlantic Conference standings on Saturday thanks to their 3-0 win over Hartford City FC before a crowd of 467 at Dietz Stadium. All three goals were scored in the electrifying first half.
Marist midfielder Sam LaTorre leapt from the goal line to head in a deftly delivered corner kick from Paterson Kabore just five minutes into the match to put the home side up. Sixteen minutes later it was forward Vinny Colantuono’s turn as he put a long pass from Scott Zobre into the far corner of the goal just out of the keeper’s reach. Colantuono capped the scoring off another Zobre assist just three minutes later as he scooped the ball over the advancing keeper’s hands deep inside the box.
From there it was all defense, again anchored by a clean sheet for LaTorre’s Marist teammate Dylan McDermott, who has two clean sheets in his first two games for Kingston. Hartford came into Kingston having annihilated Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds in a 7-0 result to open the season, but their offensive well was truly dry.
With the win, Stockade FC are fifth in the NPSL’s power rankings, just below Central Florida Panthers SC and just above Jacksonville Armada FC U-23.
Kingston will hope to maintain the momentum of a strong 2-0 start as they head into their first road game of the season at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, traveling north to take on Boston City FC at Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere, Massachusetts. Boston City is 1-0 as of press time.
