Highway Superintendent

Myer is worth keeping

I have watched Doug Myer for the last two years in the position of the highway superintendent. I think our roads and bridges are in excellent condition, and I think the highway team deserves a lot of credit. His time and experience have been very well utilized on behalf of the taxpayers of Saugerties. He has more than proven his campaign motto this year and two years ago, “Honesty, Integrity and Experience.”

Honesty– he has an open door policy at his office as my wife and I made a visit and he answered many of our questions.

Integrity– he has made decisions in the best interest of the tax payers with full knowledge that politically, these decisions may hurt him in the future. With that being said, how many politicians do you know would step up to the plate and do the right thing?

Experience– he has been involved in the excavation/construction environment for over 40 years, both locally, state wide and out of state. His current position speaks for the experience when you can see a newly elected official presented a flat budget his first year and below budget his second year. As a matter of fact at the end of 2012, all bills were paid and he still added $622,229 to the Highway Department budget that didn’t come from increased taxes. Having money in reserve is always wise to be prepared for the next weather disaster. Yes, I would classify that as experienced! If an employee is willing and offers to do extra work, like doing some cleaning, I see nothing wrong. The job needs to be done and, if it is cheaper to have things done in-house instead to having an outside contractor do the work, it works to everyone’s advantage, especially to the taxpayers. Why would taxpayers want to change what is worth keeping? I ask that you join me in supporting Doug for lower taxes and good roads & bridges.

Saugerties

I knew Doug when

Although I don’t live in Saugerties anymore, I do stay in touch with a few friends there, including Doug Myer and his family. I feel compelled to let Saugerties tax payers know of my experience with Doug Myer as my employer when I held the position of office manager for his company, D & S Earthmoving, Inc. During my employment there, along with many other of his employees, we had the opportunity to be involved with the largest earthmoving project in the state of New York under Doug’s expertise. This was only one of many.

I know that Doug functions extremely well under pressure, which I am sure his position as highway superintendent does encounter from time to time. He is meticulous with organizational skills and if you haven’t noticed yet is an avid speed reader. He never ceased to amaze me when he would take a spec. book containing 100-plus pages, read it in less than an hour and tell me on what page to find certain information. Doug always carried himself in a professional manner and always treated employees with the utmost respect and fairness.

As far as him as a family man? He stepped right into the fulltime position of Mr. Mom in April of this year for his 16-year-old granddaughter and 8-year-old grandson while his wife cared for their mom in a Boston Hospital for three months following major surgery. I doubt Doug missed a beat at the highway garage or the FEMA Department.

As a friend, Doug was there for my family when we needed him. Doug has a big heart and I so dearly appreciate all he did for us. Doug is an amazing person both personally and professionally.

I thought this information should be shared as I know Doug to be a humble man and the work he has accomplished over his lifetime is that to be proud of. Doug was a great employer and has become a wonderful friend.

In closing, Doug’s campaign motto could not be more fitting. Honesty – Integrity – Experience

Please go out and support Doug by voting for him for highway superintendent.

Hard choice in highway race

This is a win-win for Saugerties. Something that does not happen very often in elections. I am not sure how I will vote because it will mean that I can’t vote for the other guy. Doug did an excellent job this past term and Ray, I have known and worked with for years and there is none better. Saugerties needs to find a way to have the benefit of both.
