Hein: Helsmoortel is clear choice for supervisor

Greg Helsmoortel has been instrumental in shaping a positive future for the town of Saugerties. As town supervisor he helped expand business opportunities, control taxes and improve quality of life. He has been a strong partner in economic development and a tireless advocate for taxpayers through innovative shared services initiatives. Simply put— he is the clear choice for a better future for the people of Saugerties and I urge the great people of Saugerties to support him for town supervisor.

Mike Hein

Ulster County executive

Police endorse Helsmoortel, citing communication

The Town of Saugerties Police Benevolent Association is proud to announce that we have endorsed Greg Helsmoortel for the position of town supervisor. Greg has always been willing to meet with the union members while he was in office as the town supervisor. He helped address several issues that were brought up during Labor Management meetings. Greg was always willing to listen and was very supportive of the Police Department.

The Town of Saugerties PBA has never previously endorsed a local candidate but feels that it is important to support candidates who are willing to listen and work on issues with the union.

Ryan Hampel

President, Saugerties PBA

Are we happy?

In order to make a good decision about our next town supervisor we must only ask ourselves, “Are we happy?”

Are we happy about the current state of affairs in our once thriving town? Are we happy that our taxes increase every year forcing many people out of their homes who cannot afford to pay? Does it give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside that that you can be next? Do we like the fact that our elected officials are moving welfare folks from Newburgh, Kingston and Poughkeepsie into Saugerties to stress our economy, increase our taxes, overwhelm our schools, police, and fire departments, while bringing drugs and crime to our streets? What about the lies and manipulations we saw during the past two years?

If you plan to vote for Kelly Myers I only ask, have you been to the Town Board meetings and have you seen her in action? Have you witnessed her vote her own personal beliefs and ideology rather than the will of the people?

We were all unhappy because Helsmoortel was encouraging wealthy out-of-town developers to build taxpayer supported welfare housing projects in Saugerties against the will of the people. These projects proposed huge tax increases on homeowners under the guise of “affordable” housing, but it was unaffordable to us. Something smells fishy when a real-estate kingpin has his hands in development projects.

Think long and hard about that. If you are sick of the powers that be, status quo, business-as-usual in Saugerties and want something better, you will choose the clear choice, Gaetana Ciarlate, a new face, new blood and new ideas. It’s time to change this town for the better. Negative mud-slinging ads against Gaetana paid for by the Saugerties GOP only prove their desperation. Roberti knows Kelly Myers’ past record is wrought with problems and her new fake budget was created only to fool the people. Does she think we are stupid? With a record of complete ignorance of Robert’s Rules of Order, Myers handed the watered down SAFE act vote to her Democrat friends, thereby pulling a Cuomo. We chanted “Pack your bags, Andy” at the rally in Albany to save our second amendment rights and now it’s time to tell Kelly the same. She has done nothing to protect the rights of legal gun owners, despite some people’s skewed perception. We have no idea where Helsmoortel stands on preserving our constitutional rights, but we do know that he is the same arrogant self he has always been.

Your views matter not to either of these candidates. The only clear choice for Saugerties is Gaetana Ciarlante. Join me in bringing her leadership to our town. We sure need it.

Donna Greco

Ciarlante is the right vote

I am responding to Will Myers’ letter of last week. For two and a half years, Gaetana Ciarlante and I have been fighting against Dickerson Keep, a taxpayer-subsidized but privately owned housing project, and now the Country Meadows subsidized housing project. It was Gaetana who first organized the opposition against it preventing the economic devastating to many homeowners.

Will Myers cries foul and accuses Gaetana of personal attacks, but the personal attacks came out of the Myers’ camp with collusion of Joe Roberti Jr. Gaetana has only responded to their attacks and has only done so with facts. In other words she is not giving them hell; she’s only telling the truth and they think they are in hell. Will Myers ridicules the intelligence of the voters in trying to prevent their votes for Gaetana. The voters know that Gaetana has been consistent, honest and hardworking through many years of service to American citizens.

Will Myers said our property taxes have been reduced when it’s actually only been proposed during an election year. Does it still include a $15,000/year raise for his wife?

Gaetana is a lifelong Saugertesian and Republican just like me, and only wants to do right by the Saugerties residents. Will Myers needs to refresh himself on the definition of facts as facts are not made up.

Though Will Myers seeks to blame the water meter fiasco on Gaetana, Gaetana has already presented a plan to resolve his wife’s blunder and resolve the water meter wars.

Gaetana is not a puppet for George Heidcamp. If she were, why then did she run and nearly win in the Republican caucus, the Democrat caucus and started her own party called Saugerties First and Foremost before seeking the Conservative endorsement?

As the Conservative candidate, George Heidcamp has supported Gaetana as any good party leader would do. Gaetana Ciarlante is no one›s puppet which may be the reason the local Republican leadership has not embraced her as a candidate.

I have been a lifelong Republican and I will vote for Gaetana because she is by far the best candidate for Saugerties. Elect Gaetana Ciarlante town supervisor. It›s not a wasted vote; it’s the right vote.
