Sara Miot Krakenberg

Sara Miot Krakenberg, 82, of Hickory Ridge Rd., Catskill passed away on December 25, 2020.

She was born in Manhattan, a daughter of the late Francis and Jeanette Dowling Letton. A Mt. Tremper resident since 1970, she was a Licensed Massage Therapist who practiced in the Woodstock area for many years.

As a ballet dancer, Sara performed with the New York City Ballet Co. from 1957 – 1962. She taught ballet at her studio The New School For Performing Arts in Kingston and later at the Saugerties Ballet Center. Over the years Sara choreographed many dance pieces for the Ulster Ballet Company, including Caravan and Nocturnes. Her major choreographic effort was “A Christmas Carol” which had its first showing in 1995 and celebrated its 25th anniversary last year at the Ulster Performing Arts Center, Kingston.

Sara moved to Catskill in 2005. Throughout her life, she remained passionate about dance and the arts. She was an avid gardener, animal lover and healer who put her heart and soul into everything she did.

Loving wife of Harold Krakenberg, mother of Justin Cook (Lori Prehn) of Ventura, CA and Anne David (Kevin) of Monroe; stepmother of Paris Krakenberg of New York City; sister of John Letton (Sassa) of Arizona; grandmother of Samantha Prehn, Mose Cook, Vincent Cook, Donnea Prehn, Joshua David, Kristen David, Paris Krakenberg and Aiden Krakenberg.

A walk-through gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2020 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill. Face coverings are required, and social distancing may limit the capacity inside the funeral home.
