Robert R. Eklund

Robert R. Eklund, 70, of New Lisbon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Robert was born on September 19, 1951, the son of Robert F. and Helen M. (Kettell) Eklund in Sidney, NY.

Over the years, Robert proudly served his community as a member of the ButternutValley Alliance and, for many years, as a councilman for the Town of New Lisbon.

He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and nature. Robert had a love for music, songwriting, and photography. He owned R.R. Eklund Photo; a self-employed photographer for most of his life. Amongst his biggest passions was being an environmental activist; always standing up for what he felt was right for the good for his country.

He is survived by his parents; his children, Gina (Anthony) Murfitt, Katie Eklund, and Gabrielle Eklund; parents, Robert and Helen Eklund; sisters, Diane (Barry) Klein, Christine Eklund, Nancy (Bob) Campbell, and Janet (Kenny) Eklund; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several close friends. Robert was predeceased and now reunited with his daughter, Marina Eklund and is now sharing stories and having drinks with his best friend John Myer.

For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Robert’s memory, please consider the Butternut Valley Alliance, PO Box 43, Morris, NY 13808.

A Celebration of Robert’s Life is being planned at Robert’s home on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
