Neil A. Schaffer, 60 of Woodstock, NY, passed away on April 4, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. He fought until his final day, never losing his sense of humor.
Neil was born on May 11, 1961 to Sonya and Jack Schaffer in New York City. He owned and operated Schaffer Excavating in Woodstock for 30 years. He was an EMT/ Firefighter and past Captain of the Woodstock Fire Dept.
Neil loved to be on his boat, and attained a Coast Guard Master Captain’s license. When not on the water, Neil loved to spend time in his gardens. During the winter months he worked on the Windham Mountain Ski Patrol.
Neil is survived by his wife Katrina; son, Forrest and his wife Alyssa; brother, Scott Schaffer Esq. and his wife Carmen; sisters, Dr. Carrie Schaffer and Liane Murtagh and her husband Michael; niece Chloe and nephew Austin; Neil’s former spouse, Victoria; in-laws, Michael and June Boyle; stepchildren, Ryan, Paige and her husband Sgt. Ryan Kanuch USA Ret. and granddaughter Riley. And finally, Neil’s beloved and constant companion, his dog Lilly.
A memorial service and celebration of Neil’s life will be held at the Woodstock Fire Dept. Co #1 located at 242 Tinker St., Woodstock, NY on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
