Gerhard Lothar Funk

Gerhard Lothar Funk was born in Germany, in the town of Marburg on May 13th, 1948. He was the firstborn son of Lothar Funk, a carpenter, and Irene Chirtralla, a master gardener.

Gerhard Funk passed away peacefully in his home in Woodstock, NY on the morning of August 26, 2020. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Gerhard is survived by his wife Dorothea Fischer aka Dorje Funk and their five children – daughters Gina, Amber, and Amarani, sons Gabor and Mila, and his nine grandchildren.

Gerhard and his wife Dorothea emigrated to Woodstock, NY in 1979, where they settled to raise their children. Gerhard designed exterior decorations at the Tibetan Monastery KTD on Overlook Mountain and helped with the fundraising for the new temple. For many years he produced Buddha Statues large and small in his workshop. He worked diligently to master his many talents. He made his living as a professional house painter and craftsman. He was a true artist at heart.

Gerhard’s passing leaves a void in this world, his clever words and insights have inspired many in our community and he will be deeply missed.

Thank you, Gerhard, for all the good that you brought to this world. May peace be with your soul and may we all learn to honor and care for the Gift of Life that we have been given.
