SAUGERTIES – Ethel A. Quick, 92, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018. She was born on March 31st, 1926, in Staten Island, NY, to Florence and Freeman Stay. She moved to Quarryville as a child and graduated from Saugerties High School in 1944.  Ethel was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Bertram Quick.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Konopka of Saugerties and Colleen (Patrick) Stevens of Guilderland, NY. Also surviving are sisters, Marion (Everett) Vail and Alice Byrne. Ethel’s joy was her family which included 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ethel is predeceased by her 3 sons, Michael, Robert and Bertram Quick, her brothers, John, Freeman, and James Stay, Richard, Thomas and William Stamp, and her sister Virginia Justi.
Ethel worked as the receptionist/assistant for Dr. Herman Ash for 45 years. In her retirement, she became involved in a number of volunteer activities with Friends of the Saugerties Public Library, the Ulster Literacy Association teaching English as a second language, and Saugerties Pro Musica.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary of the Snow Church, Saugerties, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ethel’s name to Doctors Without Borders or Saugerties Pro Musica.
