Elaine Greger of New Paltz passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2024, with her hand being held as she was told how much she is loved. Elaine was born on December 19th, 1940, in New Paltz, NY, and was the daughter of the late Leon and Gertrude Keator. New Paltz is where Elaine met and married the love of her life – Hermann Greger. With so much love between them, they were married for over 50 years. They were high school sweethearts; their love and devotion for each other is unmatched.  Together, Elaine and Hermann cherished every moment they shared, whether it was a quiet evening at home, spending time with others, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Their time was full of bowling, craft fairs, antiquing and going on their yearly trip to Aruba with friends. Elaine and Hermann’s love was a beautiful testament to the bond they built, finding joy in the simplest of moments and creating a lifetime of memories side by side.
Elaine dedicated her life to always supporting and loving her family – especially her three children and grandchildren. She always had such a big smile on her face as she spent time with her family.  She taught her children what it is to be loved, appreciated and treasured through meaningful conversations as well as beautiful handwritten cards. Elaine taught the meaning of family and filled everyone’s hearts with love.Throughout her life, Elaine made all holidays and birthdays so wonderful – each child was made to feel special. Her family remembers such incredible Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holiday celebrations full of love and laughter. Her children will always be thankful for having such a wonderful Mother and will carry her in their hearts each day. Even though she will be greatly missed, her family is thankful to have such beautiful memories of both Elaine and Hermann to cherish. Â
Elaine’s husband Hermann was waiting to take her hand and bring her to heaven. She was predeceased by her brother Donald Keator of Key West, Florida. Elaine is survived by her son Timothy (daughter-in law Cheryl), her son Todd, and her daughter Robyn McDonough (son-in-law Robert). In addition, there were beautiful grandchildren who were part of Elaine’s life – Ella and Aidan McDonough as well as Avery and Ethan Greger as well as many nieces and nephews. All the above loved both Elaine and Hermann deeply. In addition, she most enjoyed having conversations with her dear friends Mo, Janet and Marian.
The family is having a private ceremony celebrating her life. She will be buried next to her loving husband Hermann Greger at the New Paltz Veterans Cemetery. Elaine had a warmth that everyone in her presence felt. It was important to Elaine that she always showed others how much she loved them! In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to let someone in your life know how much you care. This would bring a beautiful smile to Elaine as she looks upon us from Heaven. Her love leaves a lasting imprint in her family’s memories forever.
