On August 31st, 2021, Charles ‘Charlie’ William Anthony D’Amato, our life-long jokester was finally beaten to the punchline.
Charlie was proud of his Italian heritage, hailing from Long Island NY. The wisecracker of the bunch of five siblings, Charlie brought comedic relief to every situation.
A lover of boating and fishing since his youth, Charlie was often be found in lakes, oceans, and rivers in crafts of all sorts. Once, in his teens, Charlie was racing to make repairs to his speedboat engine when it was suddenly lost overboard and he hooted, “solves that problem!”
Charlie spent over 40 years in Hudson Valley NY where he brought up his six children and perfected his Dad jokes, like the Cannibal Classic, “Two cannibals are eating a clown, one turns to the other and says, ‘this taste funny to you?’” No doubt he would have continued to recite his repertoire of one-liners in his role as Pop-Pop to his four grandchildren.
A Mister-Fix-It, motorcycle enthusiast, and live music devotee, Charlie embodied the, “you have to grow old, but you don’t have to grow up” ethos. Charlie was a humble man who smiled easily and was always willing to help someone out with his whole heart and he often volunteered in his community. He loved good times with good company and could still be found partying until the early morning.
Charlie was beloved by all and made many friends wherever he called home which was most recently Amelia Island, Florida. His Celebration of Life Ceremony will be September 17th at 5:30 pm at Tiger Point Marina 997 Egans Creek Lane Fernandina Beach FL 32034.
