The City of Kingston has wrapped up its 2025 paving season, with final resurfacing work completed on Stephan Street, Wilkie Avenue, Overlook Drive, and Ringtop Road. But construction in the city isn’t over yet (is it ever over?).

In the coming week, speed humps will be installed on sections of Pine, Gage, and Stephan Streets as part of traffic-calming measures aimed at improving safety in residential areas.

Central Hudson will continue paving restoration work next week, with operations planned on Van Deusen Street, Van Buren Street, Furnace Street, Cedar Street, and Clinton Avenue. The work schedule remains tentative and is dependent on weather conditions. On First Avenue, sewer and paving preparation work is ongoing, with final paving anticipated in early November. Drivers are advised to expect rough road surfaces in that area until the work is completed.

Sidewalk upgrades led by the New York State Department of Transportation are underway across several areas of Kingston, including Albany Avenue, Ulster Avenue, and Route 32. These projects aim to bring sidewalks into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Lane closures along Albany Avenue are causing delays, and motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes. Meanwhile, traffic signal infrastructure at Golden Hill is scheduled for installation during the week of November 10, marking a continuation of broader traffic safety improvements.

NYSDOT is also continuing its paving efforts along Route 9W. Work between Canal Street and the southern end of the concrete roadway is expected to be completed by October 25. Starting next week, milling and paving between Route 9W and the Delaware Avenue ramps will begin. One ramp will be closed at a time during work hours, with traffic detoured toward Broadway; all ramps will reopen outside construction hours. At Loughran Park, improvements to the pickleball and tennis courts are progressing, with surface coating currently underway and final elements such as nets and fencing expected to be installed in the week ahead.
