Longtime town clerk Jacqueline “Jackie” Earley resigned effective October 31, finishing out 39 years in town service, two years and two months short of her elected term.
Earley announced her retirement to the town board on October 14 via Zoom because she is visiting her brother in Tennessee, who is recovering from surgery.
“It has been such a great honor to serve this community, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and the support extended to me over the last 22 years,” Earley said.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that the town is in a strong position moving forward,” she added.
“I look forward to a smooth transition and will ensure all necessary assistance is provided in the coming weeks. And this is with sincere appreciation.”
Earley recommended “without any hesitation” that recently appointed deputy clerk Meghann Reimondo be appointed through the remainder of her term.
“She has, in the past weeks that she has worked with me, demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and a clear commitment to serving the people of Woodstock,” Earley said.
“I am confident that she will continue to support the town with integrity, efficiency, and care.”
Supervisor Bill McKenna said Earley gave him a heads-up that day, but he was still caught a little off guard.
“You’ve been a loyal, dedicated, hardworking employee for this town for 39 years, and I thank you for your service,” McKenna said.
Presumptive Supervisor Anula Courtis, meaning no offense to Reimondo, expressed concern about appointing someone who is new to the job.
The board tabled acceptance of Earley’s recommendation so it can discuss Reimondo’s appointment in executive session prior to the October 21 Town Board meeting.
“I do want to thank Jackie,” Courtis said.
“She’s cared very deeply about Woodstock and the people in it. So thank you to Jackie for that service,” Courtis said.
“When you were in dispatch, but certainly every moment of your time as town clerk, the town office has run super smoothly,” council member Laura Ricci said.
“There’s a lot to know, a lot of laws to know, and everything just happens like clockwork. You make it look easy. I know it’s not easy, but you make it look easy, and thank you for everything.”
