New stop signs in Town of Ulster, Kingston plans more road work

The Ulster Police Department recently shared news of two new stop signs being installed in the Town of Ulster after approval from the Town Board.

The first new stop sign is at the intersection of Millers Lane and Hillside Terrace. This addition converts the crossroads into a four-way stop.

Also becoming a four-way stop area is the intersection of Catskill Avenue and Merlina Avenue.

Street work and infrastructure updates in Kingston

Paving work has been completed on O’Neil Street between Broadway and Foxhall Avenue. The next phase of street resurfacing is scheduled for the third week of July, covering multiple streets across the city. The roads slated for paving include:

* Pine Street from Maiden Lane to Greenkill Avenue
* Greenkill Avenue from Wall Street to Marius Street
* Marius Street from Washington Avenue to Glen Street
* Glen Street and Glen Street Extension

Separately, the ongoing sewer project on Prospect Street will continue through the week of June 30. Greenkill Avenue, between Clinton Avenue and Iwo Jima Lane, will be closed to traffic on Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1, to accommodate storm drain installation. Additionally, Prospect Street between Cedar Street and Greenkill Avenue is scheduled to be closed on Thursday, July 3, for paving work.

Central Hudson will proceed with service installations during the week of June 30 on Fairview Avenue and Howland Avenue. These activities may cause intermittent lane shifts or road closures. Once service work concludes, retirement of existing gas mains will begin on these roads. Meanwhile, new gas main installation on Voorhees Avenue and Alcazar Avenue is expected to start during the week of July 7.

Archtop Fiber has completed underground infrastructure work across the city. Crews are now focusing on restoring the affected street surfaces.

In addition, the initial phase of improvements in the informal parking area within the Greenkill Avenue right-of-way has been finalized. Enhancements in the area aim to optimize traffic and parking flow, improve safety and visibility, resolve drainage concerns, and provide pedestrian access between the Boys & Girls Club, Barmann Park, and The Metro. New green space and tree plantings have also been added. Although the current parking configuration is temporary, final striping and signage are planned for fall 2025. While the City of Kingston retains ownership of the site, the redevelopment is being funded entirely by NoVo in Kingston.
