The City of Kingston has been awarded a $477,000 Restore New York Communities Initiative grant to support the transformation of a long-abandoned building at 289 Foxhall Avenue. The funding, provided by Empire State Development, will aid Headstone Gallery in rehabilitating the property into a vibrant arts facility offering studio rentals, administrative offices for local arts organizations, and opportunities for youth employment and apprenticeships. The project also includes landscaped parking areas to complement planned street redesigns and improve the corridor’s visual appeal.
The site sits at the entrance to the Cornell Street arts corridor, a growing destination for the creative community.
“These grants provide a unique opportunity for local businesses and organizations to make substantial improvements to structures in disrepair,” said Mayor Steve Noble.
Headstone Gallery co-founders Lauren Aitken and Chase Folsom expressed enthusiasm for the project and appreciation for the community’s backing. “We are so thrilled and grateful to have been awarded a Restore NY Grant,” they said. “We cannot wait to renovate and share this new space with Kingston and the greater Hudson Valley communities.”
