Earlier today, the City of Kingston wrote in a Facebook post that it has “confirmed reports of US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Kingston this morning.”
Shortly thereafter, the Kingston City School district sent a notification to all parents addressing the potential for ICE to target students for deportation.
“Although we have no reason to believe they will be entering our school buildings,” the notification read, “I want to assure everyone that our administration is well-versed in state laws and policies that outline our responsibilities for safeguarding our students in such situations. Our security team and SROs have been briefed, and our building leaders are aware of the policies and procedures for any necessary response. Additional communications will be sent if needed. The safety of our students is always a top priority.”
Area school superintendents have previously made clear they will do everything they can to protect students from deportation.
