Open since 1977, Jarita’s Florist is a Woodstock institution, providing the floral arrangements for countless gifts, weddings, funerals and everything in between. In an Instagram post on Saturday, Dec. 15, the business announced it would be closing out its 47-year run at 17 Tinker Street at the end of 2024.
Named after its owners, Jay Sadowitz and Rita Sands, the pair took to social media to thank its loyal customers and community, or they put it, “Flower Friends”.
“We have loved being the Woodstock town florist since 7/7/77,” they wrote on Instagram, adding, “Thank you all for sharing this with us.”
An outpouring of support and praise quickly followed in the comments section, with hundreds of customers voicing their bittersweet congratulations on the retirement.
“Wishing the two of you a beautiful, happy next chapter, but boy am I so so sad Woodstock will be without your love of flowers and your exceptional, creative ways on how best to express their beauty and colors for the recipient(s),” wrote Tina Bromberg.
“I wish you both the best for the future, and we will all miss you,” wrote Kathy Longyear. “You have helped guide me thru good times and unbearably bad times with your beautiful flowers. I am honored to have gotten to know you and to have had the hometown feeling with every bouquet. You will always be in my memories.”
“I can’t imagine Woodstock without you!” wrote Emily Darrow.
