A flurry of activity in Woodstock

The center of Woodstock was a flurry of activity last Friday as people gathered around the village green and filled the stores open late for the annual open house.

Ars Choralis sang carols on the library lawn. A lighting ceremony showcased this year’s town Christmas tree — nothing like last year’s oddly shaped tree that was replaced after outcry and ridicule.

After the lighting ceremony, the Rock Academy Show Band entertained crowds with a selection of holiday music. The children enjoyed a visit from Bubbles the unicorn, who had a lighted horn.

Crowds filled the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts for the 24th annual 5 by 7 Show. Artists donate their works measuring 5 by 7 inches (or 7 by 5 inches) and remain anonymous, their names revealed once the piece is sold. Proceeds go to help the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild.

At Golden Notebook, artist, musician and bicycle mechanic Michael Esposito signed copies of Swami Salami, the best of his Woodstock Times cartoons, a staple for readers for decades.

Nick Henderson

Nick Henderson was raised in Woodstock starting at the age of three and attended Onteora schools, then SUNY New Paltz after spending a year at SUNY Potsdam under the misguided belief he would become a music teacher. He became the news director at college radio station WFNP, where he caught the journalism bug and the rest is history. He spent four years as City Hall reporter for Foster’s Daily Democrat in Dover, NH, then moved back to Woodstock in 2003 and worked on the Daily Freeman copy desk until 2013. He has covered Woodstock for Ulster Publishing since early 2014.
