Prolific local photographer Joel Mandelbaum grew up hating ice. Only later in life did he begin to deeply appreciate its beauty, citing a winter drive up Kaaterskill Clove on Rt. 23A as his first deep appreciation of the “creative” ways frozen water forms. He has since produced a number of arresting images of these “marvelous figures, colors, and quasi-geologic formations,” many of them shot here in the Hudson Valley. These ‘Ice Dreams’ will be on display for a special pop-up show this Saturday, and one couldn’t imagine better timing as temperatures begin to dip into the 20s and 30s.
