The New Paltz Police Department is investigating an accident resulting in serious physical injury that occurred on Libertyville Road in the Town of New Paltz on Monday, October 28 at approximately 10:12 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2007 Saturn was traveling northbound when they passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone. Upon entering back into the northbound lane, the 26-year-old female driver left the roadway and struck a tree head on. The driver and a 26-year-old male passenger both sustained serious injuries and were transported to Vassar Hospital by the New Paltz Rescue Squad. A four-month-old female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital and then to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY.
Following the accident, Libertyville Road was closed until approximately 3:30 p.m. The case is under investigation and the New Paltz Police Department is asking anyone who was in the area during this time and may have witnessed the accident or has any information regarding this accident to contact them at 845-255-1357.
The New Paltz Police Department was assisted by the New Paltz Rescue Squad, New Paltz Fire Department and the Ulster County Crash Reconstruction Team.
