The Woodstock Public Library is hosting a furniture giveaway day on June 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to make room for renovations at its future 10 Dixon Avenue location. The furniture, left over from Miller/Howard Investments, the former building owners, is available for the taking, though donations are encouraged. Bring tools to disassemble larger items.
The deadline is June 26 for contractors to submit bids to make renovations. The work should begin in late July.
Voters approved a $3.95 million bond in 2022 for purchasing and renovating 10 Dixon as the new library. The purchase price was $2.579 million. The remainder was for facility renovations and moving expenses. Due to unanticipated expenses such as a new sprinkler system, the library needs more fundraising.
Helping push the library toward its goal is a $165,000 state grant secured by assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha to purchase shelving.
“This funding is immensely helpful to the overall project to renovate and repurpose 10 Dixon Avenue into Woodstock’s new public library, as it covers expenses beyond the bond funds received for this project,” library director Ivy Gocker said. “The library continues to fundraise through state and corporate grant programs as well as private donations.”
