A long-haired, blond, blue-eyed hippie boy from Bleecker Street New York, Freddy Rogers, 66, passed peacefully and with courage on May 6th after a long illness.
Freddy loved playing Beatle songs on guitar and the music of Frank Zappa; even— almost—got his mother to like Zappa. He lives in Austin, TX, and would converse with her by phone for hours.
His mother, Mary Zydel, of Saugerties, remembers many arm-in-arm moments with him here; especially an endearing one long ago. At age 3, out on a nursery school walk, holding onto a safety line together with the other children, the line of them moving slow as a long caterpillar, he announced to her: “Let me introduce you to my friendsl”
Freddy, born 1957, is survived by his mother, Mary Zydel, and daughter niece, Sophia; and grand nephew, Gavin.
A celebration is to be announced at a later date.
