A benefit auction to pay for renovations to the future Woodstock Public Library at 10 Dixon Avenue raised $30,000. The April 7 auction at Woodstock’s town hall featured paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs, objets d’art, antiques, collectibles, jewelry, professional services, adventures and more.
Proceeds will go to renovating the former Miller/Howard Investments building in Bearsville so that it can bear the weight of books on its second floor. The event will also go towards paying for a sprinkler system that wasn’t required when the future library was an office building and for other items.
Rehabbing local homes
Three housing projects in Ulster County have been given tax-exempt state bonds and subsidies to protect the local housing supply. Some $37.9 million will pay for the rehabilitation of 212 affordable homes in Ulster County.
The Ulster projects include the 80-unit Birchwood Village in the City of Kingston, the 60-apartment Birches at Saugerties in the Town of Saugerties, and the 72-unit Chambers senior housing in the Town of Ulster. The three properties will undergo extensive capital improvements and interior renovations, including sustainability improvements. The developer is Beacon Communities LLC.
The awards are part of a $25-billion plan to create or preserve 100,000 affordable homes across New York State, including 10,000 with supportive services for vulnerable populations, plus the electrification of an additional 50,000 homes.
