Historian, journalist and poet Vernon Benjamin, who died in June 2022, will be remembered at an event at the Saugerties Public Library at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.
Will Nixon of Bushwhack Press, which is publishing “Crossing Divides,” a poignant account of Benjamin’s visit to the Standing Rick Sioux Tribe protests in 2016, will moderate. Saugerties town supervisor Fred Costello and Hudson Valley One publisher Geddy Sveikauskas will be guest speakers.
It was on this memorable trip to South Dakota that Benjamin, after a lifetime of community service and political, civic and intellectual activity, had asked himself whether he had known what commitment really was or whether he had just been going through the motions.
