For forcing his way into a residence on March 9, 2023 and stealing a victim’s purse while threatening to shoot her with a gun, Niaki Dial, 20, of Kingston was sentenced by county judge Bryan Rounds to eight years in state prison followed by five years’ post-release supervision.
But that was not all.
He was additionally sentenced to a concurrent term of two and a third to seven years in prison, stemming from his guilty plea to promoting prison contraband in the first degree. While incarcerated at the Ulster County Jail awaiting trial on his home-invasion activities, Dial was found in possession of a ‘weapon-type’ shank.
According to a corrections officer there at the time of the discovery, Dial stated, “I will stab you in your fucking neck!”
Numerous pending criminal charges were also included in Dial’s guilty pleas. He stabbed another incarcerated individual in the neck with a pen at the jail. He also threw urine on a county corrections officer.
Newly promoted deputy chief ADA Paul DerOhannesiann handled the sentencing portion of the case.
