Dominick Joseph Mitaro, of Havre de Grace, MD, formerly of New Paltz, NY, passed away on October 10, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Mitaro was born in Bronx, NY, to immigrant parents, Michael Mitarotondo and Angelina DiMaggio Mitarotondo. He was the devoted husband of 72 years to Rose M. Mitaro, loving father of Janet Grainger (Ed), of Havre de Grace, MD, and Joanne Mitaro (Connie Crandall), of Decatur, GA. He was the grandfather of Renee Mentzer (Chris), Amanda Vincenti, Rosalie Pantano (Daniel Nicholai), and Nicholas Pantano (Katie Glaeser), great-grandfather of Hailey, Delaney, Kinsey, and Matilyn Mentzer, Jade and Lila Vincenti, and Maximus Nicholai. He was predeceased by his siblings Joseph Mitaro, Rocco Mitaro, Anne Meo, and Mary Tolve.
Mr. Mitaro served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He moved from the Bronx to New Paltz, NY in 1963, raising his family there and working for IBM for 38 years. He also enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod. He loved hunting and fishing and was a life member of the NRA. Mr. Mitaro was also a life member of the VFW.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 1-3 and 5-7 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 3:00 PM, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Father Francis Ouma will officiate. Pallbearers will be Janet Grainger, Ed Grainger, Joanne Mitaro, Connie Crandall, Nicholas Pantano and Chris Mentzer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
