Library trustee thanks voters
Thanks to all of the voters who supported the Saugerties Library budget. I would also like to thank everyone who supported me in my successful effort to become a trustee of the SPL. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated, caring trustees currently serving on the board. This board brought our new library construction project through to completion-on time and under budget. They are to be congratulated for their efforts. I am looking forward to serving with the caring, dedicated trustees currently serving on the SPL board. Hopefully, we can make our library even better in the future.
If you haven’t yet visited our new library, please do so. It is a beautiful facility and the director and staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.

Public should get to see waterfall at Cantine Dam
There may be a lesson to be learned for Planning Board members. A few weeks ago, it was reported that a grant application was filed by the Town and Village to create a walking trail from Dock St. to the Lighthouse.
Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if the grant application could have stated that a civic-minded developer of the Partition St. hotel and conference center had dedicated a trail on his property that overlooked the water fall and the Esopus Creek? Such a trail would actually run from the Village Beach along the escarpment through the Partition St. Project down Dock Street and up the hill by the treatment plant all the way to the Lighthouse. Unfortunately that developer turned his back on the public walkway. When the Partition St. Project was under consideration by the Planning Board, I and quite a few others urged the developer to provide for a walkway as a recognition of the public financial support the project received and the high value our community places on our environment. Let us hope this gap in the trail which includes its most dramatic feature, the waterfall, does not weigh against the grant application.
If the grant is awarded, I urge consideration of placing the walkway on the south side of Lighthouse Drive overlooking the Creek. Perhaps a boardwalk could be considered for part of the way. It would afford a wonderful view of our harbor.

The way to the new preserve
There was one error in an earlier letter to the editor about the Falling Waters Preserve where the writer stated that visitors could enter from Spaulding Lane at Villa St. Joseph. This is not true!
When you visit this beautiful new preserve, come in from 9W onto Joseph’s Drive, (Bishop’s Gate entrance), stay on Joseph’s Dr. to where it ends at York Street and make a right. Take the next hard left where a familiar Scenic Hudson sign is posted at the entrance to Villa St. Dominic and Falling Waters Preserve. Go down the lovely Dominican Lane and you will find a parking lot on the left just before an old garage and farmhouse. There is an information kiosk there as well.
Esopus Bend Nature Trail and now Falling Waters Preserve are truly gems of nature and we are fortunate to have them here. Hope you enjoy them!
