Local New Paltz hair salon and day spa Radiance has taken its act to the stage at Cabaloosa bar/restaurant to show off the best of its hair, makeup and nail designs, as well as teaming up with local clothing boutiques to make the Radiance models extra-fabulous.
According to Tina Warg, a veteran hair stylist at Radiance, the idea for the show, which happened this past Sunday, blossomed when she and other Radiance stylists began talking amongst themselves and with customers about the downturn in the economy. “We thought it would be a great idea to do something that promoted local businesses, have fun while doing so and be part of the November ‘buy local’ movement,” said Warg.
To that end Radiance, on short notice, contacted some local businesses and had two clothing stores jump aboard, including Ritual and Rhianna’s Closet: both eclectic, vintage and modern clothing shops in the Village of New Paltz that helped to dress the models in fun and trend-setting fashions. The models included some regular customers, as well as some locals who are professional models, and the stylists went to work to create vibrant hair colors and hairstyles, as well as exotic makeup and some “sassy wardrobes!”
The models were photographed by two local artists, and the shoots will be compiled into a book that will appear at Radiance and other participating stores to show off what the area has to offer in terms of beauty, design, fashion and more.
“It was our first year doing this, and we did it on short notice, but we’re already planning a big event for the spring and want to bring in as many local businesses as we can to provide a real showcase of what New Paltz has to offer and to invite the residents, public and tourists in,” said Warg. “This was a trial run and it was an amazing success; we can’t wait until we launch a bigger event this May!” ++
