The sun broke through the morning clouds for the second annual African-American Festival and Parade held on East Strand in Kingston last Sunday, August 28. The first festival was held in 2019 and was postponed for the next two years due to Covid. This year’s theme was the music of Motown’s super groups performed by the Shadows of the Sixties singers. It was a full day of music performances, vendors, great food and kids’ activities.

Jason Lord, owner/jeweler of 4 Winds, crafts a pair of beaded copper earrings while talking with Peter Kladstrud of Rochester.
The parade on Broadway started the festival.
Cindi and Jeff Fountain of Newburgh dancing in the street.
Dancing to the musical group Base Camp.
Makai Arrindell, age 9 of Kingston, is getting down.
Dancing on the stage to music spun by a DJ.
Singer Marlene Merritt on the stage.
Cousins Zha’Niyah Warren, age 7 of Kingston, and Bella Darnell, age 17 of Millbrook, working the Royality Enterprises of Kingston booth.
Jerimiah of Gennie’s Soul Food in Poughkeepsie, serves up shrimp jambalaya.
