Saugerties Town officials unanimously approved setting a 7 p.m. curfew for Halloween this year at last Wednesday’s Town Board meeting.
Town Supervisor Fred Costello said he wanted to thank the Town for celebrating Halloween appropriately in recent years. “That’s was not the case when I was a young man,” he said. “There were opportunities for vandalism and making a mess.”
He acknowledged certain areas with better lighting get hit hard with scores of trick-or-treaters, but he thanked homeowners for being overwhelmingly welcome. “We’re hoping to continue that,” Costello said.
Deputy Supervisor Leanne Thornton recommended families kick off Halloween weekend by checking out the Saugerties Fire Department’s Children’s’ Halloween Parade set to return to the village this year on Friday, October 29. Line up is at 5:30 p.m. in the municipal parking lot behind Mirabella’s with the parade stepping off at 6 p.m.
The procession will run up Partition Street to the Fire Department where there will be costume contests and other fun activities for kids.
