The Hudson Valley Humanists will celebrate Darwin Day on February 4, 4 p.m., at the New Paltz Community Center, located at 3 Veterans Way in New Paltz.
Darwin Day is a Humanist “Holiday” celebrating the February birthday of scientist Charles Darwin, originator of the biological theory of evolution. Professor Glen Geher and his students will speak about the new book The Evolution of Beauty: How Darwin’s Forgotten Theory of Mate Choice Shapes the Animal World — and Us by Richard Prum (which is on the NY Times top ten books of 2017 list). The book revives interest in Darwin’s other major work The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex, also known as Darwin’s “really dangerous idea.”
This meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, e-mail auer1@att.net .
